I'm back from Chengdu!!! YA! I went to Chengdu for 8 days and bought a lot of things. The trip is quite OK. There are happy moments and sad moments. We went with our family friends which is one family... the Lee family. I will now blog what happened during the 8 days starting from 5th December...
Day 1
We leave the house at about 9.10am. The Lee family had some difficulty fitting all their luggages into a taxi. Since my father's friend (Uncle San) was fetching us to the airport using our car, we decided to help them by helping transport some luggages. De Kai also had to squeeze with us in the car. We reached the airport at around 10am. Together with the other people in the tour group, we checked in our luggages. We went to have McDonald's for breakfast before entering the departure gate. We hang around the area before we depart to Chengdu at 12.20pm. By the time we reached there and meet up with our tour guide, we were all tired. We travelled on the bus for two hours to our hotel. The reason why we did not stay at a hotel in Chengdu is because the following day, we'll be going to Jiu Zhai Gou. The journey from Chengdu to Jiu Zhai Gou is around 9 hours and to reduce the time spent on travelled the following day, we had to travel 2 hours to the hotel. That's means we only need to travel 7 hours on the bus before we reached our destination. After we reached the hotel and checked in into our room, we went to a restaurant to taste Sichun snacks. Erm.... we do not find it appetizing at all... :P Anyway, we saw fireworks when we exited the restaurant. What a good way to start the holiday. :D
Day 2
We woke up at 6am and had our breakfast at the restaurant in the hotel. After which, we start our journey to Jiu Zhai Gou. The journey is tiring. The reason is because I am BORED!! We stopped by a few places for toilet breaks and also stopped to have lunch at a restaurant. We also went to the trip of a mountain to take some photos. BRRR!!! It's very cold... No snow, just ice. =.= By the time we arrived at Jiu Zhai Gou, it was already 5pm++. We checked into or hotel and had dinner at the restaurant in the hotel. There's no heater in the restaurant so we had to wear our winter coats while eating. After which, we went to see a show at the Jiu Zhai Paradise Theatre. We saw the Tibetan and Qiang people singing and dancing like what the Tibetan people also do. Then we went back to our hotel. The light at there are interesting. They installed lights that only turns on when there are people walking past.
Day 3
We woke up at 6am and went down to the restaurant in the hotel to have breakfast. We went to the Jiu Zhai Gou National Park to take photos. In the morning, we were freezing and I could not take a lot of good pictures. But after the sun comes out, it was better. We took a lot of photos there. (Close to 300 photos... WOW! 0.0) I didn't upload any here because it is confidential. :) Nothing much... After we left the national park at 5pm++, we had dinner at the restaurant and had free time for the rest of the night. We stayed at the hotel for two nights.
Day 4
We woke up at 6am and went down to the restaurant to have breakfast. (Same as the previous day.) We saw an old woman took a fake bread from the buffet table and put it on her plate... 0.0 After a while, a staff took her that the bread is a decoration. I find it hilarious but I didn't laugh... :D Anyway, we travelled 9 hours from the hotel to Chengdu stopping at the same places for toilet breaks and lunch. At the restaurant to have lunch, I saw a big fat rat that was dead... Anyway, we reached the hotel at 7pm+ and checked in. After which, we went to see the Sichun Opera. It was quite interesting because they can change their mask without touching them... After the show, our tour guide told us how they changed their masks. We reached the hotel in around 20 minutes and went back to our rooms.
Day 5
We woke up at 5.45am and went down to the restaurant to have breakfast. After which, we went to an old chengu district in a town near Mt. Emei and bought a lot of snacks. Then, we had lunch at a restaurant to have lunch. After which, we went to a jewellery store where they sell jewellery made of jade. My mother bought three necklace and a bracelet. By the time, we reached our hotel, it was already 5pm+. We had dinner at 6pm at the restaurant in the hotel. Uncle Clifford and my father bought two paintings at the restaurant because the painter was there and the hotel staffs were auditioning the paintings off at very low prices. After we put the paintings in our rooms, we went to a shopping district nearby. We took a trishaw there. It is so fun and cheap! The fare is only S$2!! We bought some winter clothings and snacks for us. We also bought supper from a fast food restaurant. We booked the trishaws after we reached the shopping district. The trishaw people kept an eye on us at around 10pm because we booked for them to come at 10pm. We tried to escape by walking through a small open air market and they tailed us! O.o In the end, we gave up and took the trishaws back to the hotel. I sat with my mother in the trishaw for both trips. On the way to the hotel, the trishaw took a risk and rushed through the main road in front of our hotel. We were only meters away from an incoming truck!! Close shave...
Day 6
We woke at 5.30am and went down to have breakfast. Then we went to Mt. Emei to see the largest Buddha statue. First, we had to take a bus for around 2 hours and then hike up to the cable car station. We spent 40 minutes just to hike up to the cable car. (Of course, it's all stairs) The stairs were slippery because of the ice. Tsk.. :( Then we waited for the cable car. We took the cable car up to the peak of Mt. Emei. However, the cable car only lasted 5 minutes... =.= The steps were even more slippery. Thankfully, I managed to survive without falling but I did slip a few times. When we reached the statue, the thick fog covered the statue... =.= After taking photos, we took the same route down. By the time we reached the bus station. It was about 4pm. Then we went back to Chengdu. We had dinner at the restaurant. At 8pm, we went to a nearby shopping district for shopping. Since we only had less than 2 hours to shop, it was very 'rush'. We took a cab back to the hotel because it is getting late. We didn't bought much that day. We reached the hotel at 11pm.
Day 7
We woke up at 6am and went to the restaurant in the hotel for breakfast. After which, we went to the Chengdu Panda Base to see giant pandas. This is the part which I've enjoyed the most. :D I took a lot of photos and videos of the pandas. I also bought a panda soft-toy as a souvenir. Then we went to a silk factory and my mother bought three pillows that was made of silk from silkworms. Then we had lunch at a mushroom-specialized restaurant to have lunch. Then we went to another part of Chengdu where all the old Chengdu houses were being preserved and converted to shops. Then, we went to a tea place to taste different types of tea. Uncle Clifford and my father drive a hard bargain until the staff at the tea shop gave up and gave us a very reasonable price. After which, we had dinner at a restaurant before the tour guide dropped us off at the shopping district we went the previous day for last-minute shopping before heading back to the hotel. When we got off the bus, we were surprised that all the things we bought that day took up two seats in the bus... -.- My mother managed to squeeze all the things into the luggage and we even had to use the spare luggage which was hidden in one of the luggages. Then we watched an old movie on the television before going to sleep.
Day 8
Same thing.... but this time, we woke up at 8am. We had breakfast at the restaurant. Before going to the airport, we went to a place where they sell Chinese medicine. Then we went to taste Ma Lu Steamboat at a restaurant. We spent around 2 hours there for lunch before we went to the airport. We bought some fruits and snacks before we entered the departure gate. After we entered the gate and our passports was checked by the airport staffs, we saw a lady in-charge of a scanner talking away at the phone... =.=" Anyway, the machine was at the corner of the airport and it is switched off so who cares... We departed Chengdu at 5.45pm and reached Singapore at around 10.30pm. Uncle San picked us up using my father's car. We also helped the Lee family bring some of their luggages home because they stay near the airport. Yi Zhen tagged along too. After dropping Yi Zhen and some of the luggages at their house, we also dropped Uncle San near his house and went home. We reached home at around 12am and I went to sleep to 12.50pm.
This is so far the longest post I have ever posted in my blog. Maybe I'll post some pictures on Facebook as well as in my blog. Oh well, time to go and sleep. It's getting late. Post more soon! :D
